Barcelona Moon Team attends the European Planetary Science CongressBarcelona Moon Team, attended the European Planetary Science Congress held in Madrid 23rd-28th of September 2012. The intention of the Congress was “to cover a broad area of science topics related to planetary science and planetary missions. The program of the congress contained oral and poster sessions, and emphasized workshops and panel discussions in order to have a strong interaction between the participants.”

BMT’s technical leader Pablo Colmenarejo, from the Madrid based company, GMV, gave a presentation on Tuesday 24th in the Oral Program TP2 “Lunar Science and Exploration – A Global Approach”. Under the title “GLXP BMT: Lunar Lander Mission Definition & Opportunistic Science during Nominal Operations” he explained that the BMT GLXP is a low cost mission and, thus, design-to-cost approach is used instead.

Pablo presented the mission architecture and mission approach and identified potential opportunistic science targets with minimum impact on the Lunar Lander module and Rover module systems and at a quasi-zero cost.

Indeed the team announced some months ago the commercialization of additional payload, competition rover aside. The price per kilogram is currently 1,35 million of Euros and the standard dimensions on the rover are slots 10x10x10cm, while the lander can admit larger payloads. The team is currently in conversations with many interested customers, for different types of payloads.
