Barcelona Moon Team at the International Astronautical Congress 2011. News, News (eng)

Rafael Harillo, space legal advisor for the Barcelona Moon Team, attended the International Astronautical Congress that was held last week at Cape Town, in South Africa. He had several meetings with different companies and agency’s representatives to coordinate efforts in many areas, and he also presented a paper where he explained the current efforts on private space access projects that are held in the Barcelona region.

“We had interviews with people interested in participating in different systems and technologies, including several possibilities for launchers”, said Harillo.

Every year, the International Astronautical Federation together with the International Academy of Astronautics and the International Institute of Space Law (IISL), holds the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) which is hosted by one of the national society members of the IAF. This was the first time in which the Congress was held in an African country. As usual it was attended by the agency heads and senior executives of the world’s space agencies, but this time China was missing: a pity after their succesful launch some days ago of the first test module for the space station they plan to operate and their ambitious program to go to the Moon.
